What is personal information?
Personal information is information or an opinion (including information or an opinion forming part of a database) from which it is possible to determine a person’s (you, your) identity.
The information collected or held by W2022 about any person will vary depending on the circumstances of collection. It may include, but is not limited to, a person’s name, email and/or postal address, phone number, date of birth, gender or communication history with W2022
How does W2022 collect personal information?
Information may be collected from you when you:
- become a member of a club, association or other body which is a member of CA or affiliated with a member of CA;
- subscribe to any publication of W2022, including electronic publications;
- voluntarily provide details to W2022;
- Volunteer for W2022; or
- where W2022 is required to do so by law (for example where required to do so under any legislation (either State or National) in Australia).
As can be seen, there may be occasions when W2022 will collect the information directly from third parties. W2022 will, before or at the time of collection, take reasonable steps to ensure that third parties are aware of:
- the purpose or purposes for which the information is collected; and
- the organisations or types of organisations to which W2022 usually discloses information of that kind.
How does W2022 use personal information?
- verify your identity;
- carry out the objects of W2022 as set out in the W2022 constitution;
- administer, manage and provide you with access to information and our website.
- keep you informed of news and information relating to the 2022 UCI Road World Championships
- research, develop and directly market products, services, merchandise and special offers made available by W2022, sponsors, affiliated organisations and third parties.
Disclosing personal information
In using your personal information for the purposes set out above, W2022 may disclose your personal information to a range of organisations that include, but are not limited to:
- companies we engage to carry out functions and activities on W2022’s behalf;
- our professional advisers, including our accountants, auditors and lawyers;
- our insurers;
- our members and other affiliated or related organisations; and
- Cycling Australia and the International Cycling Union.
In addition, W2022 may also disclose personal information:
- with your express or implied consent;
- when required or authorised by law;
- to an enforcement body when reasonably necessary; or
- to lessen or prevent a threat to an individual or public health or safety.
Direct marketing – our practice
W2022 is committed to ethical e-marketing practices and opposes the use of SPAM as a marketing tool.
Individuals may also be invited from time to time to ‘opt in’ to receive additional direct-marketing communications. All W2022’s direct marketing will include an unsubscribe link and will be clearly identified as coming from W2022.
Every person whose data is collected by W2022 has the option to refuse direct-marketing e-mail, SMS or posted offers from W2022 by making a request in writing to W2022 or making use of unsubscribe links in W2022’s communications. Information relating to the option to unsubscribe from those communications may be retained.
Health and other sensitive information
W2022 is required by law to obtain consent in the collection of “sensitive” information. Sensitive information includes but is not limited to: health information and information that discloses race, ethnicity, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs or affiliations or details of criminal records.
W2022 may use health information to ensure that programs we operate are run safely and in accordance with any special health needs our participants may have, and for insurance purposes. In addition, we may use de-identified health information and other sensitive information to carry out research, to prepare submissions to government or to plan events and activities.
Protecting personal information
W2022 will not sell any personal information to any third parties.
W2022 stores information in different ways, including in paper and electronic form. The security of personal information is important to W2022. W2022 will take reasonable steps to protect personal information stored by W2022 from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Some of the security measures W2022 may use include confidentiality requirements of our employees, affiliated clubs and associations and service providers, security measures for system access and security measures for the W2022 website.
When users visit the W022 website, our systems may record certain information about their use of the site, including the web pages visited and the time and date of their visit. W2022 uses this information to help analyse and improve the performance of the W2022 website.

The W2022 website contains a link to its social media page and other online forums where contributors may provide their own details or opinions. W2022 takes no responsibility for information publicised in any public forums and accepts no association with the views expressed except where contribution to the topic has been provided by officials of W2022 in their official capacity. W2022 cautions users of these forums to carefully consider any views expressed on the forum.
Access to and correction of personal information W2022 will take all reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information it collects, uses or discloses is accurate, complete and up-to-date.
