Men U23 Road Race

Men U23 Road Race

The Men Under 23 competitors are in for the ride of their life when they assemble on the start line in Wollongong.

The Wollongong City Circuit is a technical route through the suburbs of Gwynneville, Mount Ousley, Mount Pleasant, Fairy Meadow and North Wollongong.

The steady ascent along Mount Ousley Road to Mount Pleasant is deceptively tough – it features an average gradient of 7.7% and a maximum of 14% to reach a maximum elevation of 119m.

Endurance and pace will be required in equal measure from the athletes.

Format of events

Road Race: The event is a single ‘mass start’ road race, the winner being the first across the line at the completion of the full race distance. This is usually conducted as a circuit race of approximately 15 -25km which may start from another point before entering the circuit

Individual time trial (ITT): An event in which cyclists race alone against the clock on flat or rolling terrain, or up a mountain road. Cyclists start the race at different times so that each start is fair and equal

Team time trial mixed relay (TTT): A road-based bicycle race in which teams of cyclists race against the clock. Cyclists start the race at different times so that each start is fair and equal
